Information for Beginner-Level Riders

Horses are not stabled at the Club; members bring their horses to the Club from one of many local stables or private barns within walking distance of the Club. Our riding facilities are available daily from 6:00am until 10:00pm.

but i don't own a horse...

That’s okay! Some of our Club-sanctioned instructors have lesson horses available.  Our instructors can also help you to find a horse for lease or purchase if this is of interest.

do beginners ride at the club?

Beginners are always welcome!  As well, many of the surrounding stables and barns in Southlands have riding rings on their property; these are often where riders are introduced to the sport. Once riders have gained the basics of the sport, they may wish to take advantage of the wonderful facilities the Club offers - either on their own or with one of our Club-sanctioned instructors.

can you recommend any instructors or stables that accept new/beginner-level riders?

Yes. The Club is happy to help you get off to the right start, even if you aren’t joining right away! In addition to our Club instructors, there are stables in the community offering introductory and beginner-level lessons on suitable horses/ponies, including:

For most, this will include an approved riding helmet and boots with a heel. The Carrington Shoppe can outfit you from a first lesson to the Grand Prix ring!  Visit their website at  for details and pop-up shop hours here at the Club.
